- Idea
- Each month it looks at every company listed in the US, including foreign companies listed here and companies that later disappeared, keeps those worth at least $100 billion, and buys the twenty whose shares rose the most over the past year, leaving out the most recent month, favouring those furthest above their 200-day average. Winners tend to keep winning for a while.
- Universe
- Every stock listed in the US at each date, including foreign companies listed here and companies that later delisted or were acquired.
- Must pass
- Require market value (this share class) at least $100 billion.
- Ranking
- Higher return over the past year excluding the latest month (2 weight); higher distance above the 200-day average (1 weight).
- Holdings
- Equal weight the top 20 names.
- Rebalance
- Monthly; orders fill at the next session's open, with spread and market-impact costs that grow for less liquid names; compare against SPY.
- Note
- Every figure is as it was known on the decision date; a name missing a figure is left out at that decision.
